Yesterday, we had a great radio show discussing the importance of a morning routine and its impact on our day.

Research shows that humans perform optimally with a structured guide.

A morning routine is like a business plan, essential for success. It’s like a football formation that’s designed to help the team win the game. Do you agree?

It’s a personalized structure to optimize our morning, fueling the body, mind, and spirit for peak performance.

I believe it’s there to help us feel better and perform better throughout the day.

For me, a morning routine is flexible, depending on the day’s goals. It may include prayer, a workout, or a nutritious meal with protein, fiber, probiotics, and healthy fats.

Protein boosts muscle health and energy, while probiotics and fiber support gut health and overall well-being. Fats are essential for brain health and hormone regulation.

In the morning, I focus on eating for brain health, gut health, and physical energy.

And I advise that we limit or eliminate processed foods and sugary drinks.

You don’t want to experience a sugar crash first thing in the morning because of high sugar. If you tend to feel less energy during the day, you may need to assess your nutrition, sleep, or electrolyte intake.

We also explored meditation as a practice to familiarize ourselves with our thoughts, emotions, and actions.

It establishes awareness, identity, purpose, and calmness. Remember, we can be our own enemies with self-distracting thoughts. As the African proverb says, “When there’s no enemy within, the enemy from without can do you no harm.”

Any practice that can give you an anchor and help you establish your ground is necessary in the morning. Some pray, some light up a candle, some listen to music, vamwe vanopira kuvadzimu, whatever you can do to center yourself for the day is always needed. It can be a cold shower, a nice bath or dressing up to feel good.

We also elaborated that Movement is key! Even short exercise snacks, like jumping jacks in the bathroom, can make a difference.

As the Chinese proverb says, “Movement is medicine.”

How about you?
